Nina Hill is an African- American, born , Singer- songwriter, and musician. During early childhood practicing the Arts was part of her daily life , long before entering Kindergarten. Born to tremendously talented parents, her Mother a Choreographer, dance Instructor, and musician. Her Father a Multi-instrumentalist, Singer-songwriter , Fashion enthusiast, and Entertainer throughout Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit , and Midwestern region of U.S.A. Musical creativity and Artistic expression are simply in her blood.
Her Creative Seeds were sown in the Dance Company of her mother, experimenting with her fathers instruments, and at the piano along side her Uncle, during rehearsal sessions with his popular Soul Band. Early lessons of creating Masterful musical work. Equally rewarding was the time she spent in under the Ministry of her Great Grand Fathers church. Where prayers and dialogue were expressed through song and dance. In this environment,every day of the week, Nina was under the guidance of Musicians , Artists, Writers, Intellectuals, Theologians, Painters, and Dancers .
Most natural was the progression to study Piano at age 7 , later on Contra Bass , followed by Bass Guitar. All the while singing in the Choir, playing Tambourine, and percussions. From Gospel to Blues, Jazz, Hip Hop, Soul and Pop. She performs most any form of American music fluently and effortlessly.
Raised in Southern California , she developed an affinity for Classical music in elementary school when she was introduced to the Contra Bass, resulting in four years of study and performing in Orchestras, on into High School. A Master Class in team work. Singing in the Choir and Gospel groups was a given for her and her sisters. However Nina was composing Gospel tunes, rehearsing vocals, and playing Electric Bass full-time.
Before the end of High School, Hip Hop Dance Crews and Soul Bands became her focus. It was at this time, she was signed to an independent Label to record a Rap / Vocal Album. A great experience and opportunity for additional Studio work. This Rap , Jazz Vocal concept , developed again with Michelle Coltrane the daughter of the Iconic John Coltrane. Touring with Los Angles based R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Blues Bands, Nina has gone on to perform for audiences all over the world. With “ Greats “, such as Hazel Payne from the duo "Taste of Honey", The Neville Brothers, Cee Cee Peniston, B.B. King, James Brown, The Ike Turner Revue, Hiram Bullock, Tower of Power Horns, The Gap Band, WyClef Jean, Shakira, and many other Band Leaders and music producers from the teams of “Death Row Records” , Universal Records, Stevie Wonder, Narada Michael Waldon, Chakah Khan, Anita Baker, Bass virtuoso Rickey Minor, as well as members of the John Coltrane, and Miles Davis Families.
